DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2345Z OCTOBER 18, 2007

California:
A fire in central Mariposa county in central California is producing a
light to moderately dense plume of smoke that is generally drifting to
the south and reaches into north central Fresno county.

Arizona:
A cluster of fires in southeast Coconino county east of Long Valley
near the Blue Ridge reservoir are producing a light to moderately dense
smoke plume that is mainly drifting south across much of western Gila
county. A fire in western Yavapai county in the Prescott National Forest
is producing a thin plume of light smoke that extends only about 15 km to
the south. A fire in northeast Apache county is producing a long narrow
plume of light to moderately dense smoke that extends to the southeast
and reaches as far as north central Cibola county in New Mexico.

Texas:
Several fires in the Texas Panhandle were producing puffs of light smoke
that drifted to the southeast and were mainly less than 25 km long. The
fire were in Hartley, Sherman and Hall counties.

Quebec:
A cluster of fires in west central Quebec east of James Bay were producing
a plume of light smoke that was drifting to the northwest.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
