DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z OCTOBER 24, 2007

California/Baja California:
In morning imagery, the fires in San Deigo county are producing very
dense plumes reaching up to 75 miles to the west northwest covering much
of Orange county. The densest smoke from the fires in Bernardino county
is once again starting to cross into Los Angeles county.
Moderately dense remnant smoke from last night covers the coast from
nothern Santa Barbara county down to the Mexico border and stretches
about 1000 miles to the southwest over the Pacific.

Texas:
Two fires in Lamb and Castro County are producing small plumes of light
smoke moving to the south.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
