DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0120Z November 13, 2007

Ontario:
A fire in southwestern Ontario is producing a thin to moderately dense
plume of smoke that is moving easterly.

Kansas:
A fire in northeastern Haskell is producing a thin to moderately dense
plume of smoke that is moving southwesterly into southwestern Haskell
county.

Alabama/Louisiana:
A lot of fires in southern Alabama and Louisiana are producing thin to
moderately dense plumes of smoke that are moving northward and influcing
locally.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
