DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0030Z November 14, 2007

Florida Panhandle:
A fire along the western banks of the Ochlockonee River (just south of
the intersection of Wakulla and Liberty counties) produced a puff of
thin smoke that fanned out in nearly all directions though favored SSEly
drift to make a near perfect circle of smoke that covered the length of
Liberty-Wakulla county line along the River.
A fire near Youngstown in NE Bay county prouced a plume of thin smoke
that drifted south about 22km to the East Bay and Tyndall AFB.

Alabama:
A fire near Comer near the Barbour Bullock county line produced a thin
plume of smoke about 8km wide that extend 30km SSE to the GA state line
near the Clay/Quitman county line.
A fire near Ino in SW Coffee county, AL produced a fan of thin smoke
that streatched between ENE and ESE about 33km to the Dale county line.
A fire near Alma in S Clarke county produced thin to moderate smoke
throughout the afternoon that moved NE about 63km (to the Monroe/Conecuh
county line) covering most of central Monroe county.

Louisiana:
A fire on the northern tip of Point au Fer Island produced a moderately
dense plume of smoke that covered the coastal regions of Terrebonne
parish to around to near Cocodire. The plume was generally moving SSE
and was about 15km wide.
Multiple small fires on N Marsh Island produced thin smoke that moved
NE over the W Cote Blanche Bay.

Montana:
A fire near Hilger in Fergus county (in the mtns just west of US-191)
is producing a thin plume of smoke that is about 7km wide but extends
nearlly 150km to the ESE as far as Sumatra in W Rosebud county.

Colorodo:
A fire near the kink in the Crowley/Pueblo county line N of Olney Springs
produced a moderately dense puff of smoke that moved SE about 42km near
La Junta. The puff was about 12km wide.

New Mexico:
A fire in the far SW portion of Los Alamos county is producing a plume
of thin smoke that is moving SE 49km to Santa Fe. The plume was about
10km wide.
A fire west of Tsaile, AZ along the AZ/NM boarder in the Chuska Mtns is
proucing a 8km wide plume of thin smoke that extends due east 70km into
central San Juan county.

Arizona:
A fire just west of North Rim, AZ is producing a 19km wide plume of
thin smoke that extends due east 60km (or just west of US-89) in central
Coconino county.
A fire between Humphreys Peak and Kendrick Peak along US-180 is producing
intermittent puffs of thin smoke that are moving due east 31km in a 5km
wide plume.
A fire near Garnet Mtn in the Grand Wash Cliffs of Mohave county is
producing a moderately dense area of smoke that extends SE 33km but is
about 20km wide.  The smoke is moving more SSE even though it extends SE.
A fire along the corner of Gila county south of the Black River (abutted
to Graham county) is producing thin smoke that extends 56km to US191
in Greenlee county near Rose Peak.  The plume is on average 14km wide
though it fans out more into Greenlee county.

Oregon:
Multiple agricultural fires west of the Willemette Valley from Tillamook
county to N Curry county are producing thin smoke that is merging into
a large area.  The smoke is moving W to WSW and extends as far as 60km
off the coast.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
