DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0315Z December 04, 2007

Southeast US:
Numerous fires are burning across the southeast with most only producing
light plumes of smoke not traveling too far.

Arkansas:
Fires in Dallas and Ouachita counties are producing light plumes of
smoke moving south into neighboring counties.

Missouri:
A fire in Lawrence county is emitting a light plume of smoke to the north.

Louisiana:
Long narrow plumes of smoke are coming from fires in Vernon, Rapides,
Cameron, and Iberville.  One of the fires in western Vernon county is
producing moderately dense smoke.  Most smoke is heading south into
neighboring counties or into the Gulf of Mexico (fire along Gulf Coast).

Texas:
Fires in Chambers, Matagorda and Wharton are producing light smoke plumes
moving to the south with some smoke reaching the Gulf of Mexico.

Florida:
Numerous fire in/around Lake Okeechobee are emitting light plumes
of smoke.  These fire producing smoke are in the counties of Charlotte
and Palm Beach.

California:
A fire in the Plumas National Forest (Plumas county) is emitting a light
plume of smoke to the north, but staying within county borders.  In El
Dorado county (El Dorado National Forest), a fire is emitting a light
smoke plume moving north, but once again staying within county borders.
A fire in Mariposa county is producing light smoke moving north into
Tuolumne county.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
