DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z December 10, 2007

Southeast US:
Several smoke plumes were evident on satellite imagery this evening from
widely scattered fire activity over the region. All of the smoke plumes
appeared to be mostly low density and were drifting mostly to the north.
The one exception would possibly be from smoke plumes that appeared
to originate from fire activity over the Florida Panhandle counties of
Walton and Santa Rosa. At sunset, the smoke plumes appeared to extend
about 30 miles from their respective point sources towards the northern
portions of Walton and Santa Rosa counties and did have some localized
areas of moderate density smoke.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
