DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z December 19, 2007

Southeast US:
Due to extensive clouds over the region, smoke from agricultural
burns could not really be seen; only a few plumes could be observed
by the analyst. However, the analyst did find a plume in Florida,
specifically in Martin County, where a light plume was observed moving
to the southwest about 10 miles from the source.

Texas:
A light plume in Kerr County was observed moving to the northeast about
10 miles from the source. Another plume, observed by the analyst using
NOAA-15 visible imagery, was seen moving to the northeast extending
roughly 50 miles from the source.

Southwestern Canada:
Numerous bright fires were observed especially in British Columbia and
Alberta but due to extensive cloud cover, smoke could not be seen.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
