DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0315Z December 20, 2007

Florida:
Several fires were burning across Florida and some were emitting
relatively thin smoke plumes. In Palm Beach county several fires
were producing mostly thin smoke moving west across Lake Okeechobee.
Farther to the north across central Florida a fire in Polk county was
producing a light plume of smoke moving north. In northern Florida
several fires were producing light smoke moving in numerous directions.
These fires were in the counties of Franklin, Madison and Bradford.

Overall, there were numerous fires across the southeast and southern
Plains, but due to cloudiness smoke could not be seen with most of them.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
