DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z December 21, 2007

There is no significant smoke/dust seen across the US just minor fires
producing light smoke across the Texas coast with most smoke moving
southeast to easterly into the Gulf of Mexico. These smoke producing
fires are in the counties of Refugio, Aransas, Jackson, Matagorda and
Brazoria.

Numerous fires can be seen burning across Florida, Georgia, the central
and southern Plains and western Canada (British Columbia/Alberta).

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
