DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z December 22, 2007

Arizona/Northern Mexico/Texas: Blowing dust in the northern state of
Chihuahua, in Mexico, extends into far west Texas.  In southwest Maricopa
County, in Arizona, blowing dust extends into Northwest Pima County.
In northwest Sonora State, blowing dust is moving south into the northern
Gulf of California.

Florida: A fire in central Okeechobee County is producing a light smoke
plume moving southeast into west Martin County, and extends 50 miles
from the source.

Hawaii: Burning vegetation from lava flows, from Kilauea, is producing
a smoke plume moving west and extends 40 miles from the source to South
Point. In addition, vog extends beyond the smoke plume, however, it is
possible that some smoke is mixed in with the vog, which extends 150
miles west of South Point.

Louisiana: A fire in extreme southwest Cameron County is producing a
light smoke plume, which extends 25 miles into north Orange County.

  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
