DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0145Z December 26, 2007

No significant areas of smoke observed.

California and Arizona:
Strong winds have resulted in significant amounts of dust blowing across
Ventura, Los Angeles, Santa Barbara, Orange, Riverside, San Diego and
Imperial counties of California and Pima and Santa Cruz counties of
Arizona. The dust was thickest in southwestern Pima county and south of
border, where dust from the Yuma Desert was blowing across the northern
Gulf of California.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
