DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 00Z January 11, 2008

Florida:
Agricultural burns around Lake Okeechobee have been producing lightly
dense smoke plumes. Most of these plumes are moving to the north and
the northeast, and extending anywhere from 15 to 30 miles from their
sources. Additionally, a few fires over the panhandle have been producing
lightly dense smoke plumes.

South Texas/Gulf Coast of Texas:
Sporadic, lightly dense smoke plumes have been moving towards the south
and extending 10 to 20 miles from their sources.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
