DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z January 13, 2008

Florida:
Two light smoke plumes from agricultural burns south of Lake Okeechobee
are moving northwest.

Louisiana:
Light smoke plumes from several fires along the Gulf Coast are moving
northwest and extend 20 miles from their sources.

Texas:
Sporadic fires are producing light smoke plumes. These smoke plumes are
moving towards the southeast.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
