DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z January 31, 2008

Texas:
Three light smoke plumes in the north-central part of the state are
observed moving to the north and extending out at least 50 miles from
their sources.

Florida:
In the panhandle, four fires are producing light smoke plumes extending
to the southwest and moving into the Gulf of Mexico. In southern Florida,
in Collier County, a light smoke plume, extensive in size, is fanning
out in a westward direction and moving into the Gulf of Mexico.

Hawaii:
Burning vegetation from Kilauea is producing a light smoke plume
extending west.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
