DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0245Z February 6, 2008

South Texas:
Blowing dust from Mexico is moving into the area from Val Verde County
south and east to Webb County, and the dust is extending north to
near Austin.

Florida:
In Franklin, Wakulla, and Dixie Counties, each county has one fire, and
the fires are producing light smoke plumes. The light smoke plumes appear
to be moving towards the north.  In Palm Beach County, three fires are
producing light smoke plumes extending towards the north and northwest.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
