DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z February 14, 2008

Texas:
Heavy smoke extended 40 km northwest of a fire in Kenedy County. Moderate
smoke extended 75- and 140 km to the southeast of blazes in Jackson and
Matagorda counties, respectively.

Oklahoma:
Fires in Tillman and Woodward counties generated light to moderate smoke
plumes that extended 60 km to the northeast.

Louisiana:
Light smoke extended 140 km to the south of a fire near the
Calcasieu-Cameron border while light to moderate smoke extended 150 km
to the south of a fire in St. Tamany County.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
