DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z February 21, 2008

Southeast U.S.:

Agricultural fires are a dime a dozen today across the Southeast.
High clouds made it difficult to detect smoke plumes. Run of the mill
plumes moved to the north or northeast with the most notable associated
with blazes in:

Florida: southwest Liberty County, western Franklin County, eastern
Santa Rosa County; and
Mississippi: west-central Wayne County

though none of these was especially significant.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
