DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0045Z March 7, 2008

Southeast:

Plentiful ag fires in the Southeast have resulted in numerous smoke
plumes which were generally light and moved to the west or northwest.
Notable among these:
Oconee County, SC...moderately dense smoke extended 50 km to the
northwest;
Hoke County, NC...moderately dense smoke extended 75 km to the west;
Perry County, AL...moderately dense smoke extended 75 km to the northwest.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
