DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z March 16, 2008

Gulf of Mexico:
An area of light smoke continues to be seen in the western Gulf of
Mexico region.  The area is moving toward the northwest and the southern
Texas/northeastern Mexico coast line.

Southwest Texas:
Fire in northwest Val Verde county is emitting a narrow light plume of
smoke toward the northwest into the counties of Crockett and Terrell.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
