DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z March 19, 2008

Southern Texas/State of Monterrey in northern Mexico:
A well defined area of light to moderately dense smoke continues to move
northeast into the counties of Presdio, Webb, Duval, Jim Hogg, Zapata,
Brooks, Kenedy, Starr, Hidalgo, Cameron, and Willacy in southern Texas.
The fires are burning in the state of Monterrey in Mexico. Elsewhere,
fires are burning in the counties of Brewster and Presdio in southern
Texas producing only light smoke moving east.

New Mexico/Arizona:
A fire in southwest Cochise county Arizona is emitting a light to
moderately dense plume of smoke moving south SE into the Mexican state
Sonora in northern Mexico.  In northern Dona Ana county New Mexico a fire
is emitting a light plume of smoke south into El Paso county Texas and
into the northern sections of the state of Chihuahua in northern Mexico.
A fire in south central Otero county New Mexico is emitting a light
plume of smoke south into Hudspath county Texas.

Florida:
A fire in northeast Glades county (west of Lake Okeechobee) is producing
a moderately dense plume of smoke moving northwest into Highlands county.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
