DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z March 21, 2008

Alabama:
Several fires were producing mainly light to occasionally moderately
dense smoke that was drifting to the north/northwest. The larger/more
dense plumes were seen over Dallas and Calhoun counties.


Mexico:
A fire continues to burn in northern Mexico near Monterrey. A plume of
thin to moderate smoke was extending from the fire to the southeast.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
