DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1630Z March 25, 2008

Southeastern and southcentral U.S.:
Scattered fires are already appearing throughout the southeast and
Oklahoma and Texas, but most do not yet have plumes that can be seen in
GOES imagery. However two fires in southeastern Georgia are producing
narrow plumes of moderate smoke that extend toward the southwest and
a fire in western Bath County, Virginia is producing a narrow plume of
thick smoke that extends toward the northeast.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
