DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z, March 30, 2008

Florida:
A fire seen most of today north of Cape Canaveral could not be seen in
the past few hours. It had been producing an area of light to moderate
smoke that extended westward.

Southeastern U.S.
Cloud cover prevents assessment of smoke from the numerous fires in
southern Georgia and possibly elsewhere in the southeast.

Hawaii:
A fire northwest of Kilauea is producing a narrow plume of light smoke
that extends westward.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
