DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0115Z May 2, 2008

New Mexico/Texas:
A plume of smoke extended 135 km to the southeast of the fire in eastern
Pecos county Texas.  A large area of light and moderate residual smoke
from this fire was along the Rio Grande northeast across Texas into
Arkansas.

Smoke extended 165 km to the east of the fire in Otero County, New Mexico.

Florida:
Smoke from the fire in western Hernando county extended 100 km to the
northwest.

 


Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
