Plains States: A large area of haze stretches from southern Manitoba and Saskatchewan southward through the northern and central Plains across Arkansas and into northern Mississippi and Louisiana. The origin and composition of this area of haze is not known but its current location is consistent with the eastward movement of a large area of haze that crossed the Western Seaboard the evening of May 9. Gulf of Mexico: Residual smoke from fires in Central America was being shunted south across the northern Gulf of Mexico ahead of an advancing cold front.
