DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1532Z JUNE 13, 2008

North Carolina:
Thick smoke  from the Evans Road fire extends toward the west then bends
northward into southern Virginia .
Smoke from the South 1 fire moves westward a short distance than also
bends northward into  eastern Virginia.
Dispersed smoke from theses fires covers much of North Carolina, Virgina ,
Maryland and northeast South Carolina and adjacent waters of the Atlantic.

California:

Dispersed smoke covers much of central  California and adjacent waters
of the Pacific.   A thin plume can be seen with the Humbolt fire in
Butte county.

Canada:

Widespread thin smoke mixed with clouds can be seen over much of
Saskatchewan  and eastern Alberta.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
