DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

SO2 and Volcanic Ash from Okmok Volcano crossing Northern US/Southern Canada: A dense but narrow plume of SO2 was clearly seen in early morning visible imagery stretching east from the Pacific across south-central Washington, northern Idaho, central Montana, northwest North Dakota, southern Manitoba and Ontario and into southeast Quebec before becoming obscured by clouds. The plume may contain volcanic ash over portions of the US based on morning PIREPS. Impact of California Fires: Moderate to dense smoke covered the vicinity of the Basin Complex in Monterey County southward into the Pacific as well as northern California and the southern half of Oregon. An extensive area of light smoke covered all of Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota and Iowa as well as portions of Idaho, North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri and Kansas. Northwest Territories/Manitoba: Large area of smoke of various thicknesses covered the northern two-thirds of Manitoba, northern Saskatchewan, northern Alberta and the central Northwest Territories including the northwest portion of Hudson Bay.
