DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z SEPTEMBER 8, 2008

California:
In Del Norte and Siskiyou counties, fires from the Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex
and Panther are producing moderately dense to dense smoke. These plumes
are moving to the northwest over the rest of Del Norte County and extreme
southwest Oregon before moving offshore. Just to the south of these
fires, in Trinity County, moderately dense to dense smoke is advancing
to the southeast into Tehama County. Also, in eastern Fresno County,
a fire is emitting moderately dense to dense smoke. The smoke fans out
over most of the county, but also advances to the east into Inyo County.

Oregon:
The Rattle Fire and the Lonesome complex continue to generate light
to moderately dense smoke. The plumes are moving to the northwest into
Douglas and Lane Counties.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
