DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z SEPTEMBER 10, 2008

Western US:
Residual light smoke from the Siskiyou/Blue 2 Complex and the Deerhorn,
Gulch, Panther and Elmore fires extended to the southwest over the
Pacific.

A fire southwest of Crater Lake in Oregon was generating a light to
moderate smoke plume that extended to the west.

A finger of moderate residual smoke was moving southwest across portions
of northwest Nevada and north central California to San Francisco.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
