DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1530Z SEPTEMBER 13, 2008

Central Great Basin/Central Rockies:
Remnant smoke from the multiple fires out west can be seen throughout
the Central Great Basin and into the Central Rockies.  This smoke is
light to moderately dense and the states affected include Nevada, Utah,
Idaho and Wyoming.

California:
The fires in northern California continue to emit smoke which is currently
light in density and is slowly drifting to the west.

Oregon:
The Rattle Fire and Lonesome Complex in southwestern Oregon continue to
produce light to moderately dense smoke which is fanning out to the west.

Idaho:
In southwestern Idaho County, a fire is generating light smoke which is
traveling to the east.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
