DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1600Z SEPTEMBER 27, 2008

Ontario, Canada:
Residual smoke stretches across western Ontario from the fires that have
been burning in eastern Saskatchewan over the past week.

California:
In Siskiyou County, the Klamath Complex fires a light to moderately
dense smoke plume is drifting to the west. The Hidden fire in Fresno
County is producing light smoke moving to the west.

Oregon:
Along the border of Lane and Douglas Counties, moderately dense smoke is
moving to the west. A fire in Jefferson County is producing moderately
smoke moving to the east.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
