DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0130Z OCTOBER 7, 2008

Arizona:
A moderately dense to dense smoke plume in Coconino County, in the
northern region of the state, is currently moving to the southwest over
the county. The plume extends at least 30km from the source.

Wyoming
In extreme western Sublette County, a moderately dense smoke plume extends
to the southeast, around 150km, into Fremont and Sweetwater counties in
the central region of the state.

Canada:
In the southern region of Ontario, several fires earlier this afternoon
were producing moderately dense smoke plumes extending to the south
around 40km from their sources.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
