DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z OCTOBER 26, 2008

Louisiana:
In the Parishes of  Webster and St. Mary there are small plumes of light
smoke which are drifting to the east.

Arkansas:
Several small fires in the northern portion of Bradley County are
generating a plume of light smoke which is 25km wide and moving slowly
to the east.

Texas:
Along the Gulf Coast in Jefferson County a fire is emitting light to
moderately dense smoke.  The smoke is traveling to the north further into
Jefferson County and to the south over the Gulf of Mexico.  Several fires
in Casto County are emanating light smoke which is moving to the north
extending into Randall and Armstrong counties.

New Mexico:
Light to moderately dense smoke originating in the north central portion
of Grant County extends to the south and then veers to the east passing
through Luma County and entering Dona Ana County.

Arizona:
The Marteen Fire in Coconino County is emanating light to moderately
dense smoke which extends over 70 km to the south.

California:
In the eastern portion of Monterey County, light to moderately dense smoke
is fanning out to the east and west but staying within the county lines.
Several small fires in Colusa County are generating discrete puffs of
light smoke which are traveling to the south.  In the western portion
of Siskiyou County a fire is emitting light to moderately dense smoke
which is moving to the west.

Washington:
There are two streaks of light smoke originating in the central portion
of Stevens County and extending off to the east.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
