DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1430Z OCTOBER 31, 2008

Southeast U.S.:
One fire in s.w. Alabama has restarted and is producing a small plume
of smoke this morning. Two fires in central Georgia don't appear to be
producing noticeable smoke at this time.

Arizona:
Fires in Coconino County that were emitting moderately dense to dense
smoke last evening can not be seen this morning due to a cloud deck move
eastward across the region. The whole western U.S. is also covered in
clouds this morning precluding any observations of smoke.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
