DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1545Z NOVEMBER 15, 2008

S California:
Moderate smoke can be seen emitting from the Sayre fire in Western Los
Angeles county in a 14km wide plume as it moves SW to the coast line.
Along the coast the smoke then begins to move due W and is about 100km
wide covering the southern 10km of Ventura county south to Santa Barbera
island and San Nicolas Island, the most dense sections cover the main
Channel Islands.  The plume continues to hug the coastline affecting
Pt. Conception and Pt. Arguello and out to 123W between 34/35N.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
