DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z DECEMBER 8, 2008

Louisiana:
A plume of light smoke in extreme southern Vermilion Parish has been
present throughout the day.  It extends well into the Gulf of Mexico
south of the Texas/Mexico border and has been moving west during the
course of the day.  In the last few visible images the thin line of smoke
can be seen along the entire coast of Texas and northeastern Mexico.
There are other smaller fires along the Mississippi Delta which are
generating light plumes of smoke which are traveling to the southwest.
A fire on the coast of Louisiana in eastern Carmeron Parrish is emitting
light to moderately dense smoke which fanning out the the west about 30km.

Arkansas:
In Columbia County there are a few plume of light smoke which are moving
to the north entering into Nevada and Quachita counties.

  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
