DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0015Z DECEMBER 9, 2008

Florida:
In the area of Lake Okeechobee there are several small fires which are
emitting light smoke which is moving to the west.  Toward the central
west coast of Florida there are two plumes of light smoke which extend
west over the Gulf of Mexico.

Georgia:
Two plumes of light smoke can be seen originating in eastern Georgia
and traveling to the northwest.

Oregon:
On the west coast of Oregon two thin streams of smoke are moving out over
the Pacific and to the south.  On the border of Oregon and California
there is a fire emanation light to moderately dense smoke which is moving
to the south.

  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
