DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0100Z DECEMBER 13, 2008

Texas:
Along the Gulf Coast, in San Patricio and Brazoria counties, light
smoke plumes were moving to the north and west over the course of the
afternoon. These plumes extended out between 20-30km out from their
sources.

Oklahoma:
In far eastern Pushmataha County, a light smoke plume earlier this evening
was observed moving to the west into the rest of the county. The plume
extended out about 15km from the source.

Unless otherwise indicated:
  • Areas of smoke are analyzed using GOES-EAST and GOES-WEST Visible satellite imagery.
  • Only a general description of areas of smoke or significant smoke plumes will be analyzed.
  • A quantitative assessment of the density/amount of particulate or the vertical distribution is not included.
  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
