DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0230Z JANUARY 8, 2009

Southeast Texas Coast:
A large fire in E Kleberg county is producing moderately dense smoke
moving E into the Gulf of Mexico. The plume extends 120 to 130 km from
source (based on last GOES-12 visible image). Fires in S and C Kenedy
and SE Brooks counties are emitting light smoke ENE across Kenedy and
into the Gulf.  A fire in SE Hidalgo county is emitting a plume of light
smoke N into Cameron, Willacy and Kenedy counties.  In Jim Hogg county a
fire is producing light smoke NNE into Duval and Brooks counties. Farther
N along the coast multiple fires in Matagorda county are producing light
plumes of smoke NNE into Brazoria county.

No other significant smoke/dust can be seen in GOES 12/11 satellite
imagery.
