DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 2315Z JANUARY 26, 2009

Florida:
Numerous fires were seen over much of the southern half of Florida with
smoke plumes that were all moving to the west, some of which drifted out
into the Gulf of Mexico. Some areas of moderately dense smoke were seen
moving off the coast into the Gulf from Charlotte and Lee counties and
also off the coast from southern Collier. Several fires over Osceola
county producing smoke that drifted across much of Osceola and Polk
counties. A fire along the northern portion of coastal Dixie county had
a narrow plume of smoke that drifted to the south along the coast.

Louisiana:
A fire along the southern portion of Vermilion parish had a narrow plume
of smoke that extended to the northwest into northeast Cameron.

Texas:
A fire along the central Val Verde/Crockett border had a narrow smoke
plume of light smoke that extended to the north nearly reaching Reagan
county by sunset.

  • Widespread cloudiness may prevent the detection of smoke even from significant fires.
