DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1730Z October 7, 2009
Wyoming/South Dakota/Nebraska/Kansas: Several small patches of thin smoke were seen this morning from east Nebraska to the Iowa border, from east Kansas to the Missouri border, and over parts of Wyoming, and South Dakota. The NWS Air Quality Forecast Guidance website at http://www.nws.noaa.gov/aq/sectors/conus.php depicted this smoke fairly well and indicated that it is mostly surface or near surface based. However, the smoke may be from two or possibly even three different sources; as fires in Kansas and Colorado yesterday are likely the origin for the smoke over eastern Kansas and Nebraska with some smoke from fires yesterday in South Dakota's Black Hills also possibly contributing. The smoke over Wyoming most likely originated from yesterday's fires in Washington and Idaho. -Sheffler More information on the areas of smoke described above as well as others can be found at the locations listed below.
