DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1700Z August 12, 2010
Wyoming: An area of thin smoke was seen over eastern Wyoming lifting to the northeast in early morning visible satellite imagery. The smoke originated from a fire in southwest Utah last evening/overnight. Michigan/Lake Huron: An area of remnant smoke was seen over eastern lower Michigan and adjoining Lake Huron. The source of the smoke is uncertain but possibly from recent agricultural burns over southern Manitoba, eastern North Dakota and northwest Minnesota. Eastern Canada: A large area of light smoke was seen covering much of Quebec, eastern Hudson Bay and extending down to Nova Scotia and northern Maine. This mass of smoke is likely remnant smoke from the long burning fires in northern Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Southern British Columbia: An area of light to moderately dense smoke from active fires was over southeast British Columbia drifting to the southeast and just reaching into northern Idaho and extreme northeast Washington. Northwest Territories: An area of moderately dense to dense smoke was over far southeast Northwest Territories moving east and crossing into Nunavut.
