DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0300Z October 16, 2010
Currently: Lower and Middle Mississippi Valley: Numerous agricultural/prescribe burns across parts of SE Missouri, E Arkansas, N Louisiana and W Mississippi are producing mostly light to moderately dense smoke. Most of the smoke is moving in a SSE direction. Northern Idaho: Numerous fires burning in Shoshone, Latah, Benewah, Clearwater, and Kootenai counties are producing light to moderately dense smoke moving east into western Montana. Earlier Today: Southern Plains/Southeast US/Gulf of Mexico: A fire burning near the coast in southeast Texas is producing light to moderately dense smoke, which is seen moving southwest to south into the Gulf of Mexico. This smoke is then mixing with remnant smoke from agricultural fires burning across the lower to middle Mississippi Valley over the last few weeks causing a larger area of light smoke. An even larger area of aerosols were seen covering the northern part of the Gulf of Mexico, across central southern Florida and into the Atlantic. This area may also contain some remnant smoke from fires burning throughout the SE US over the last few days. -J Kibler/M Myrga THE FORMAT OF THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS BEING MODIFIED.
