THROUGH 0100Z February 2, 2011
Currently: Blowing Dust Multiple plumes of blowing dust are seen across parts of Nevada blowing toward the southwest into and along the California border. One area is seen blowing from Black Rock desert. The dust is blowing southwest and nearing the California border north of Reno and Lake Tahoe. Another area is blowing from Carson Sink southwest and nearing southern Tahoe/California border. Smaller areas farther south across parts of central Nevada can be seen blowing in the same direction and moving south SW across/along the California/Arizona border. Additional areas of blowing dust can be seen in northern Utah just north of Salt Lake City and multiple areas in southeastern California. These areas of dust are moving southwest to SSW. Earlier Today: Much of the eastern half of the country is covered in clouds this morning, hindering any possible smoke detection. One item of note was seen tracking from the southwest into the central Gulf of Mexico. Blowing Dust: A plume of blowing dust emanating from an area along the Nevada/California border near Death Valley Junction was seen drifting south this morning and moving toward the Salton Sea. Another area of blowing dust was over northwest Utah around the Bonneville Salt Flats and was moving to the south into west central Utah along and just over the Nevada border.
