DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0200Z March 18, 2011
California/Nevada/Utah/Southern Idaho: An area of aerosol seen since this morning has grown and continues to move east stretching from the Pacific into northern and central California then moving into most of Nevada, western Utah and southern Idaho. Aerosol forecasts from the Naval Research Lab in Monterrey, California indicates the aerosol is dust originating from East Asia. Northwest/North Central Gulf of Mexico/Florida: An area of residual smoke mixed in with possible other aerosol can be seen moving west off the northwest coast of Florida and extending as far south as 27N and west to around the Mississippi/Alabama border. Southeast/Mississippi Valley: Numerous fires are burning across the region with some producing moderately dense to dense plumes of smoke. J Kibler THE FORMAT OF THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS BEING MODIFIED. IT WILL NO LONGER DESCRIBE THE VARIOUS PLUMES THAT ARE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES.
