DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 0215Z May 7, 2011
Smoke and dust detection was limited this evening due to cloud cover across much of the nation. New Mexico/W. Texas: Remnant smoke is seen in today's satellite imagery tracking east-southeast across southern portions of New Mexico towards western Texas, approaching the Lubbock area. Smoke likely originated from large wildfire that has been burning for several days across portions of northern Grant County in southwestern New Mexico. Also, additional fires burning southwest of Roswell, NM may be contributing smoke. Eastern Texas/S. Arkansas/Louisiana/Mississippi: An area of remnant smoke is stretched across portions of eastern Texas/southern Arkansas/Louisiana/Mississippi this evening. Remnant smoke appears to be along and ahead of a stalled frontal boundary draped across the region. Some fires burning in southern Louisiana may be contributing to the smoke as well. Movement of the smoke is generally to the north this evening. Florida/Gulf of Mexico: Remnant smoke along a frontal boundary was visible this evening in the Gulf of Mexico and northern/central Florida. This is most likely from the numerous agricultural burns/wildfires across Mexico and the Gulf Coast over the past few days. Myrga THE FORMAT OF THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS BEING MODIFIED.
