THROUGH 1600Z June 03, 2011
Southern US and Middle Mississippi Valley/Ohio Valley: A large area of light smoke can be seen over the majority of the southern US (extending from eastern Texas to the Atlantic) and north into Missouri, Illinois and Indiana. The states over which the smoke can be seen are Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, eastern Iowa, Illinois, western Indiana, western Kentucky, western Tennessee, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, northern Florida and the Carolinas. Southwest, Central and Northern Plains: The Wallow fire on the border of Greenlee and Apache counties in Arizona continues to emit large amounts of dense smoke. The smoke is moving to the northeast and extends through New Mexico, Colorado, Nebraska, the Dakotas and Minnesota. The full extent of the smoke can not be determined due to cloud cover. Northeastern Canada/US: A thin swath of light smoke can be seen moving to the south through Ontario and Quebec and into New York State. This is may be remnant smoke from the large fires in the Alberta Territory. Alaska and Northwestern Canada: Light smoke extends from northeastern Alaska, along the Yukon/Northwest Territories border where is converges with another area of light smoke. The second area of smoke wraps from the north portion of the Northwest Territories, southeast into Alberta and the northeast back into the Northwest Territories. This is likely remnant smoke from the large fires in the Alberta Territory. -Salemi THIS TEXT PRODUCT IS PRIMARILY INTENDED TO DESCRIBE SIGNIFICANT AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS.
