THROUGH 0300Z June 19, 2011
Saskatchewan/Northern Territories/Ontario/Manitoba: Remnant smoke from wildfires burning in north central Saskatchewan, southeast Northern Territories, and northwest Ontario is being wrapped in the large scale circulation and is visible stretching as far southeast as the eastern Great Lakes. Heavy cloud cover has again inhibited the detection of smoke in the immediate vicinity of the Alberta wildfires. Southeast US/Florida: An area of moderately dense to dense remnant smoke originating from the Honey Prairie fire in southern Georgia's Okefenokee swamp is visible offshore and moving north along the U.S. coast up to the central South Carolina coast. Another area of dense to moderately dense smoke is present in the western Atlantic farther offshore of Georgia/South Carolina. This smoke is likely remnant from the numerous wildfires burning in Georgia/northern Florida. Southwest US/Central Plains/Northern Plains: Fires in northern Mexico, Arizona, New Mexico, and west Texas are all contributing to a broad area of light remnant smoke that is visible of much of north Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Arkansas this evening. There is another large area of light density remnant smoke visible over eastern Montana, the Dakotas, northern Wyoming, and northwest Nebraska. This smoke is mainly from wildfires in Alberta that is now wrapping up into a well-defined low pressure weather system centered over southern Saskatchewan.
