DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY

Eastern Canadian coast/New England coast: Remnant smoke from the recent wildfires in western Ontario was visible off of the East Coast stretching from New Brunswick south to Connecticut this morning. The smoke mass has thin density and was only visible in the morning hours, after which it becomes obstructed by clouds. Ontario: Many of the wildfires in western Ontario that have burned for approximately the last week were extinguished by natural causes during the overnight last evening and this morning. However, this afternoon, one fire appeared to re-ignite and an additional fire started to the south of it. These fires began to produce eastward moving smoke during the early evening. It is expected that this smoke will travel into Quebec and New England. Mid-Atlantic: A large area of aerosol that likely consists of a mix of haze, pollution, and smoke is present in the mid-Atlantic along the coast of the Carolinas and also in the western Atlantic. The most probable origins of the remnant smoke are the numerous wildfires that were burning in western Ontario and eastern Manitoba yesterday. The low pressure over Ontario acted to guide remnant smoke south and east and was then pulled south along the eastern edge of the high pressure circulation centered over Indiana. Idaho: A grass fire burning near Interstate 84 near Boise produced smoke which traveled southeastward into Elmore County, Idaho this evening.
