DESCRIPTIVE TEXT NARRATIVE FOR SMOKE/DUST OBSERVED IN SATELLITE IMAGERY
THROUGH 1715Z July 27, 2011

Canada:
Fires in western Northwest Territories and northern Saskatchewan
continue to produce moderate to heavy smoke.  Much of
the remnant moderate/dense smoke has remained over Northwest
Territories/Nunavut/Manitoba/Saskatchewan, but light smoke does extend
into the central portion of Hudson Bay.

Eastern US:
Light/moderate smoke extends from Kentucky/Tennessee and from northern
South Carolina into Southern Maryland and then extends off the east
coast ahead of a front moving through the region.  The smoke is likely
remnant from the Norton Point wildfire in Wyoming as well as from the
fires in Northern Canada.

California:
Remnant smoke from covers portions of the Sierra Nevada Mountains and
into Central Nevada from a wildfire in southern California.  The wildfire
continues to burn and produce dense smoke.

Texas:
Remnant light smoke over central Texas has moved into southwest Oklahoma
this morning from a fire in central Texas.

Northern Plains:
Area of light/moderate smoke from the Norton Point wildfire in Wyoming
was seen moving through North and South Dakota this morning ahead of a
cold front moving through the area.

AREAS SMOKE ASSOCIATED WITH ACTIVE FIRES AND SMOKE WHICH HAS BECOME
DETACHED FROM THE FIRES AND DRIFTED SOME DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE SOURCE
FIRE..TYPICALLY OVER THE COURSE OF ONE OR MORE DAYS. AREAS OF BLOWING DUST
ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. USERS ARE ENCOURAGED TO VIEW A GRAPHIC DEPICTION OF
THESE AND OTHER PLUMES WHICH ARE LESS EXTENSIVE AND STILL ATTACHED TO
THE SOURCE FIRE IN VARIOUS GRAPHIC FORMATS ON OUR WEB SITE:
